Japanese-y does it...
What's the point of a melting-pot city if it doesn't means class Asian food?
Japan Centre
Guess what they sell?... really central spot (just past Leicester Square). Huge range of Japanese bits, but the main draw is the food. Huge range of Japanese food - the sushi is class (great place first timers), big choice at the hot counter, even do okonomiyaki. Usually we pick up a selection, and head to any of the local parks/spots (Green Park, St James's Park, Trafalgar Square).
Walk-in.

Dozo
Small but authentic. This is a bustling spot - prebooking is pretty much essential. Amazing sushi, ramen, anything they've tempura-ed. Big choice of saki too. Great spot of grub after heading to the any of the South Kenisington museums (Natural History Museum, V+A, Science Museum).
Pre-book - always.

Ippudo
Serious ramen. The broth could be drank on it's own. Noodle are cooked spot on everytime. It's always excellently balanced bowl of goodness. 4 locations all over London, perfect for a rainy weekend.
Walk-in or pre-book - usual a queue.

Roka/Zuma
Now this rec is different. First, these are 2 different brands, but under the same head company (as far as I know). Second, it's pricey. Like properly price. Do not complain to me if you don't check the menu prices before arriving!
But - if you do go, you will not be disappointed. This is Japanese food, just closer a tube station. Sushi is as fresh as possible, all made in the open kitchen in front of you. The tasting/sharing menu is eclectic - highly recommend it.
Always pre-book, well in advance.
